Major General Groeniger is Chairman Emeritus and a Director of Marden Susco, Inc. of San Marcos, California. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, in 1952 and subsequently served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator until 1956.

After release from active duty Major General Groeniger started Groeniger and Company, which has evolved into Marden Susco, a distributor of products used in water irrigation, fire protection and sanitation projects in California and Hawaii. He served in a variety of Marine Corps Reserve command and staff assignments until retiring as a Major General in August 1987.

Major General Groeniger is involved in many civic activities in San Diego County and is a member of the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. He is a former Chairman of the Board of the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association, a former Deputy Commander of the Marine Corps Aviation Association and is currently Chairman of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

He and his wife, Nancy, divide their time between Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Indian Wells, California.
