Bio

Tim Hanifen is the President/CEO of Northstar Alternative Solutions LLC. A veteran owned self-proprietorship was established in 2013 and re-established in 2019, Northstar Alternative Solutions LLC provides study and analysis support, leadership consulting, strategy and requirements development and program management services in support of commercial, homeland security, defense, maritime and aerospace industries and government agencies.

Retiring from the Marine Corps as a Major General after 35 years of service, Tim joined the Boeing company in May 2014 and retired from the Boeing Company in 2019. Tim was the Vice President, Marine Corps Systems, Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Government Operations responsible for Marine Corps customer facing and relationship building activities for all Boeing Marine Corps related programs, activities and opportunities.

Tim was commissioned in the Marine Corps from the United States Naval Academy in 1978.  He become a naval aviator in 1979 and has flown over 3300 hours in peace, contingencies and war within the Boeing CH-46E Sea Knight Helicopter, CH-53D Sea Stallion, CH-53E Super Stallion, UH-1N Huey, AH-1W Cobra and Bell-Boeing MV-22 Osprey Tiltrotor aircraft.

Tim’s command assignments included: squadron Commanding Officer of HMM 261 Reinforced, 22 MEU in Jacksonville North Carolina (1996 to 1998);  Air Group Commanding Officer of MAG 42, 4th MAW in Atlanta, Georgia (2002-2004); Commanding General of 2D Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) and simultaneously, Commanding General, Al Asad Air Base in Al Anbar Province, Iraq (2007-2008) and Commanding General of 2D Marine Aircraft Wing in Havelock, North Carolina (2008).

His staff assignments have primarily been in concept, capability, force design and development, and program requirements and resource sponsorship.  They include: MV-22 Osprey Requirements Officer(1992-1995);  Chief Joint Vision Transformation Division, Joint Staff (1999-2002);  simultaneously the Head of the Concept Division, the Doctrine Division and the Amphibious Requirements Branch(2004-2005); Head, Material Requirements Division(2005); Deputy Director, Marine Quadrennial Defense Review Team(2005-2006); Deputy Director, Capability Development Directorate (2005-2006);  Deputy Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command (2008-2010), and Director, Navy Expeditionary Warfare Division on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff (2010-2013).

Tim has holds Bachelor of Science in Naval Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and a Master of Science degree in National Security and Strategy from the National Defense University.
