Colonel Ball was the Senior Vice President of United Missouri Bank of Kansas City and Institutional Investment Portfolio Manager for United Missouri Investment Counsel Service. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, held a MA degree in Russian Area Studies from Boston University and a MBA in Finance from George Washington University.

Colonel Ball served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1981. He commanded 1st Battalion, 6th Marines and the 8th Marine Regiment. While assigned as the Director of Command and Staff College in 1980, he was instrumental in establishing the Command and Staff College Foundation.

Colonel Ball also served as the President and Chairman of the Board of Oppenheimer Industries, an American Stock Exchange Company.

On Tuesday, November 18, 2014, Colonel Ball passed away peacefully in Coronado, after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 81.
