Colonel Mark R. Reid, USMC (Ret)

Colonel Reid joins the Marine Corps University Foundation as Director, Military and University Relations, following a three-decade career as a Marine officer. He commanded at the Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel levels and served in operational, joint, coalition, and Headquarters Marine Corps assignments, deploying in support of combat and security cooperation operations on five continents. His final assignment was as Chief of Staff, Education Command/Marine Corps University, where he saw firsthand the Foundation’s exceptional support to professional military education.

Curiosity has led Colonel Reid across a range of fields, from anthropology and strategy to consulting, adult learning, and Japanese martial arts. He recently developed and taught a Command and Staff College elective for officers preparing to serve as battalion and squadron executive officers. Earlier in his professional career he consulted in operational systems and risk management with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a graduate of George Mason University's Chief Learning Officer program and member of the Chief of Staff Association. An Aikido practitioner for over thirty years, he is currently the Chief Instructor of Elys Ford Aikido.

Much of Colonel Reid’s career centered on collaborating with senior leaders in complex organizations to achieve outsized results. During his last active-duty role as Chief of Staff for Marine Corps University, this included revising the MCU's mission, vision, and values, leading a multi-year campaign plan, strengthening decision support, and facilitating a successful university reaccreditation and Inspector General of the Marine Corps readiness inspection. The Foundation’s nonprofit status also resonates with Colonel Reid personally, who works with multiple local charities.

Committed to strengthening the Fredericksburg community, Colonel Reid serves on the board of directors of Rapidan Equine Sanctuary, a nonprofit that provides sanctuary to neglected equines while embracing the bond they share with humans. He also supports Downtown Greens, which connects people with nature through education and the preservation of green spaces.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Union College and master's degrees (both with distinction) from the U.S. Naval War College and U.S. Army War College.

Away from work, Colonel Reid and his wife, Kimberly, run Feather in the Mane Farm and support their two college-age daughters.
