2022 Semper Fidelis Award Ceremony and Dinner, Guest of Honor Col H.C. “Barney” Barnum, Jr., USMC (Ret)
2022 Semper Fidelis Award Ceremony and Dinner held on March 19, 2022
On March 19, 2022, the Marine Corps University Foundation honored Colonel Harvey “Barney” Barnum, Jr., USMC (Ret) an American hero and Medal of Honor recipient at our annual Semper Fidelis Award Dinner and Black-Tie Gala. We were back in full swing after two long years of canceled events due to a Global Pandemic. It was exciting to have everyone back under one roof all dressed up and ready to celebrate an American Hero for his outstanding leadership and heroism and overall contributions to our nation.
The Semper Fidelis Award Dinner and Gala was held at the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City. Celebrating with Col Harvey “Barney” Barnum, Jr., USMC (Ret) was his wife, Martha, and his family. He humbly yet passionately spoke about those Marines and Sailors he led when his company was suddenly hit by a hail of enemy fire in Vietnam. Lt. Barnum quickly made a hazardous reconnaissance of the area, seeking targets for his artillery. For his true act of heroism and bravery Col Barnum was award the Medal of Honor and continued to serve our great nation until his retirement from the DoD as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs in 2008.
Our guests were in awe of the tremendous valor, strength, and patriotism of Col Barnum. It was a privilege and honor to present him with the prestigious Semper Fidelis Award presented annually by The Marine Corps University Foundation to noteworthy Americans.
Past recipients include Presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush; Clint Eastwood, Honorable Colin L. Powell, General James Mattis, the Honorable Antonin Scalia and Mr. Ted Williams just to name a few. See the list of former Semper Fidelis Award Recipients.
